About Debra Grant

Debra Grant has been a registered nurse (RN) for 25 years and has maintained national certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing through the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for 22 years. She has been an active member of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) for two decades.

Throughout her career, Debra has worked exclusively in obstetrics, with extensive experience managing routine deliveries as well as high-risk obstetric emergencies. She has regularly served as charge nurse, overseeing unit operations and patient care coordination in fast-paced labor and delivery settings.

This leadership role has required rapid, informed decision-making and team coordination during critical situations, including shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and emergency cesarean sections.

Debra is also a mother of four. Two of her children were born during nursing school — one each year. Her first delivery resulted in an unplanned cesarean section after a breech presentation was discovered only once she was fully dilated and ready to push. She went on to have three successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) deliveries, giving her firsthand insight into how quickly circumstances can change in the labor and delivery setting.

Debra has a particular interest in the role of communication in patient outcomes. She believes that a lack of clear, timely information during labor and delivery can lead to confusion, fear, and long-term misunderstandings about the care a family received.

She uses both her professional expertise and personal experience to educate and support families affected by cerebral palsy and other birth injuries.
